This is a house renovation in White Gum Valley by Officer Woods, completed earlier this year. It was originally a single storey 50s ish modern home, that now has a second storey and a new skin. The stonework wall in the front and some of the windows at the north and West facades are the only visible remaining parts of the house. The house has a wonderful contorting rear elevation, that twists from vertical and the windows as a result have varying depth of reveal, and the surface takes on an almost ’soft’ appearance. It is for sale at the moment, so I had the fortune of  going through it. The master bedroom ensuite has a skylight above it, that creates a ‘divine’ shaft of light over the toilet.

So the talk last night was pretty good, some really good talks were given, some really excellent new projects were shown. One that really stood out was the talk from Officer Woods. Amazing. I went straight out this morning and found this addition in Mosman Park. So amazing. One of the best pieces of architecture I have seen in a while! For those that were there, you will already know it. But its a carport on the side of a brown brick 70s duplex(which isnt so bad!) and then added a carport/extra living area/bedroom i forget on top. References the clerestories directly down the street with amber glass inserts popping up above the roofline. The deep reveals, amber polycarb feature ‘beacon’ red supporting posts, ballustrades, and roof pitch are all wonderful. The way it pops up above the site, and peeks over Iona is delightful. It is a project of delight. It made me smile. It truly is a wonderful and very sophisticated solution. Now I must seek out more!
