Ralph Drexel

This is my first post of Ralph Drexel’s work, and hopefully one of many, he is in amazing architect. These 2 houses in Claremont are absolutely amazing. They were done in the early 80s I believe, and was my introduction to his work. He seems to deal with the use of designs trinity of pure shapes, the square, circle and triangle. The upper floor balcony has a large circular opening, in front of a square, squares reappear elsewhere. The triangular skylight/sculpture above the garage is also great and completes the trio. The bull nose detailing of the garage entry, with its off form corbusian imagery is intriguing. My favourite part is the corbeled skylights running most of the way down the house. I had no idea what they were until I got up high and could look down. Such an ingenious detail. Both houses have had additions to them, the one on the left has an absolutely wild RD addition done 15-20 years down the track. Its like a steel and timber forrest/explosion classical riot. It has corinthian columns made out of steel. The other has a sensitive steel decking/balcony type addition. Really amazing. If you know of more RDs work, tell me!
