Fremantle TAB

pc300647pc300648Happy new year! This is the Fremantle TAB, or at least it was. I don’t know any details on it, but it is a lovely little building, squashed in between some hulking Freo heritage stuff. Well, hulking in comparison. What it lacks in height, it makes up for in some very strong repeating concrete canopy type things, and the extruded cantilevered entry way. Great sculptural form, complete with a tiled roof and central pyramidal clerestory arrangement. Nice

  1. I never really noticed this building until it was vacated by the TAB a couple of years ago and have photographed the exterior a couple of times since.

I absolutely love the juxtaposition of the brutalist, cantilevered, monolithic canopies with the old 19th century buildings of the west end.

To me this is truly heritage too!
