Onslow St Townhouses

These are the Onslow St. Townhouses in South Perth, designed by Jeffrey Howlett in 1969. These townhouses are composed of a masonry ground floor, with a white tiled mansard roof . The mansard roof here is overscaled and stretched down to encompass the entire first floor, with  penetrations for the windows and balcony doors. Striking little building, with a great play of scale and some big ideas.

  1. Used to live here. Lovely place to live. Those old clinker bricks are harder than cast iron. Fab to be on the patio behind the brick wall. Indian squirrels used to sit on top of the fence and eat fruit we put out.

  2. I think, uncannily, the Blacket Smith Warnbro job was designed whilst the Blacket and Smith were living in these Onslow St ones.. oh the circuity of architecture..
